Driving in Big Bear

Driving in the mountains on snowy days can be frightening of you are not prepared. Drive SLOWLY through the snow. Carry chains. Chains are required to be in the car regardless of how snowy it is. The chains can be found many places around the mountain such as grocery stores, drug stores, department stores and convenient stores.

A few recommended articles to have in your car:

  • Spare change for phone calls (50 cents per call)
  • A gallon of water per person
  • First Aid Kit
  • Blankets
  • Gloves
  • Nonperishable food items
  • Flashlight and spare batteries
  • Cat litter (provides traction if your car gets stuck on ice)
  • A shovel
